Sarosha is a teenager. She joined Hope for Life Foundation in the m/o January 2023. She is a slow learner child and had no pre-schooling. She had multiple issues like ‘Phonological Disorder’, in which sound disorder appears during speech. Second, ‘Articulation Disorder’ in which no proper tongue placement and having no clear sounds. For ‘Phonological and Articulation Disorder’ the therapist Dr Sadaf Imran applied different strategies.

At Initial Stage

Oral motor exercises and mouth massages

Initially SLP did oral Motor Exercises of her mouth in which she used verbal commands with tongue movements (up-down-left-right) through different steps and techniques. She did Facial Massages (inner massage) in which jaws and tongue placements get in better position, then secondly (outer massage) in which muscles should be flexible and face posture would be balanced, these two therapies were applied twice a week and they are still in process.

Sessions Conducted

  • Therapist started working on ‘ca’ sound with tongue depressor, then she was able to produce ‘ca’ sound.
  • Therapist was applying verbal command, then Sarosha was successfully able to produce ‘ca’ sound without tongue depressor.
  • Therapist started to introduce the vocabulary words which start from letter ‘c’ for this she was using learning materials as you can easily see in picture below.

Outcomes: Now Sarosha is completely able to pronounce the words (eg: cow-cup-carrot-corn) and produce the sound of ‘ca’.
