Sarim Malik is a 5-year-old Down syndrome child. Down syndrome is a condition in which a baby is born with an extra chromosome number 21. The extra chromosome is associated with delays in the child’s mental and physical development, as well as an increased risk for health problems. He was admitted to the Hope for Life Foundation in January 2023.
In the beginning, Sarim’s behavior was distributed. He was not able to follow classroom rules and routines. Sarim has low muscle tones in both his upper and lower limbs. He does not understand a one-to-one therapist’s command. He throws classroom equipment and hits behavior at classmates. He faces difficulty initiating small talk. Sarim faces difficulty with completing puzzles and building three-dimensional structures.
He faces difficulty with academics and identification. He struggles with attending, understanding, and responding appropriately to information from others. Sarim displayed an incorrect pencil grip. His hand functional activities are limited with no specific purposeful hand execution skills developed.
After a span of 6 months with regular one-to-one therapy sessions for Sarim, we have now seen a significant positive change in him. A big achievement was that he shifted to the normal inclusive school and came to the daycare just for the one-to-one therapy sessions. He has shown improvement in his ability to reach and release objects and maintain good eye contact. Now he has a basic understanding of colors, shapes, things, etc. His academics have grown day by day. Sarim has now become a commander as a child and enjoys all the one-to-one activities. Sarim loves to attend one-to-one therapy punctuality. However, he requires ongoing encouragement and motivation to complete the task… Good luck
